Bryan bye 1

There was the usual rejigging of the draw to take into account late entrants.

Hendrik had an easy game when Jim let his kingside be weakened. A pin on a knight on f6 won material and there was mating attack backing it up.

Giuseppe wasted some time with his knight. This let Stewart build up an attack on the half-open f-file. An exchange sac forced open the kingside with a mating attack to finish off the game.

John won material very early on in the game. By the time it got to the endgame he was a piece for a pawn (two pawns?) up but the position was very blocked. Colin couldn't do much except avoid the obvious cheapos and John didn't seem to be trying for much himself. However, in time trouble Colin opened up the position and the resulting activity gave John a clear win.

Blair took Kevin out of his opening pamphlet with 1d4. He got a good position from the opening (or Kevin got his usual poor one) and eventually won a pawn. The endgame was an easy win.

Colin won material very early on. Fergus found a tactic to keep the material loss down a bit but Colin had far too many extra pawns and won readily enough.

Derek won a pawn in the opening and gradually improved his position, taking no risks and accumulating quite a few advantages. Tamas eventually resigned after some prolonged maneouvering.

Luke got a poor opening when he swapped off queens and gave black the half-open a-file. The position was a difficult one for white with black having the 2 bishops and better pawn structure. White's time-trouble didn't help. Damien won a pawn and managed to swap down to a simple pawn endgame which Luke resigned.

(thanks to Stewart for the above report)
